Comparison

Slot Machine Meter
Physical and Online

The word means something slightly different on a casino floor than it does online, and the confusion is worth clearing up.

Physical

Meters on a physical machine

On a physical slot machine, "meter" historically refers to the counters that track credits, coins in, coins out and wins — the accounting displays. A separate progressive jackpot display shows the accumulating prize, which is what most players mean when they say they are watching the meter.

Online

Meters in online slots

Online, the term has narrowed. A slot machine meter or jackpot meter now almost always means the progressive pool level — how much has accumulated toward the jackpot for that game.

Readings come from direct provider API integrations across 814 games and 15 providers, refreshed every 10 seconds. methodology documents the full pipeline and its limits.

Difference

What actually changes online

Pool scope
Online progressive pools are often shared across many players and sometimes across many casinos, so they move faster than a single-machine meter.
Visibility
A physical meter is visible only at the machine. An online meter can be read for hundreds of games simultaneously, which is the entire reason monitoring tools exist.
Data source
Scatter Meter reads provider APIs directly rather than observing a screen.
What stays identical
The outcome mechanism. Both physical and online licensed slots use certified random number generators.

Limits

The part that does not change

No meter predicts a spin — slot outcomes come from a random number generator and every spin is independent of the last. how slot RNG works explains the mechanism, and methodology sets out exactly what our readings do and do not show.
