Super Scatter
The Enhanced Trigger

Not a brand and not a separate game — a design pattern where one symbol does the work of several, or opens a stronger version of the feature.

Definition

What a super scatter is

A super scatter is an upgraded scatter symbol. Depending on the game it counts as more than one scatter toward the trigger, opens an enhanced version of the free spin round, or carries a larger direct prize than the ordinary scatter.

It is a design pattern rather than a standard, so the exact behaviour differs between studios and between games from the same studio. The paytable is the only authority for any particular title.

Forms

The three common implementations

Counts as multiple
One super scatter counts as two or three ordinary scatters, making the trigger reachable from fewer landed symbols.
Upgrades the feature
Triggering with a super scatter opens a stronger round — more spins, higher starting multiplier, or better reels.
Pays larger directly
Where ordinary scatters pay a prize, the super version pays a multiple of it.

Why

What the mechanic is for

Super scatters exist to add a second layer of anticipation. An ordinary scatter landing is a small event; a super scatter landing is a larger one, and the gap between them gives the game another emotional beat without changing the underlying return.

That is worth naming plainly: the mechanic adjusts how the game feels, not how much it pays over time. Return to player and volatility are set at the game level and a super scatter is part of that calculation, not an addition to it.

Reading

Super scatters and meter data

No meter predicts a spin — slot outcomes come from a random number generator and every spin is independent of the last. how slot RNG works explains the mechanism, and methodology sets out exactly what our readings do and do not show.
